𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱. Pulling yourself out of your normal daily routine takes some work. I've found it takes 3 distinct stages:

𝟭. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘆

𝟮. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

𝟯. 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺

I'm putting the final touches on a new program that will get you started with stage 1 in a big way. It will be ready soon but in the meantime, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.

One major way I've found that makes starting a new habit easier is to make it consistent. 𝗣𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 seems to work well for me.

A recent one I've been working on is building a yoga habit in an effort to 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗜 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿. Turns out, it takes far less effort than I thought:

In just 10 minutes a day, I've been able to make progress, slowly but surely. Although I really enjoy a good dedicated yoga class, it's not always in the cards. 𝗠𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗬.

Tying a new habit to one that's already established in your life is also a good tactic. For my daily yoga habit, 𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 and do my routine each night while watching TV with my husband. I know, I know, call the yoga police. But it WORKS FOR ME.

𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁, as they say.

Want to give it try? I invite you to join me in this irreverent bad yogi routine! You can find it on the Start a Yoga Habit tab here on the site. Let me know how it goes :)
